Have you been to Ombudsman Services’ offices at 711 Nevada Street in Redwood City?
Did you know that the modest two-story building that houses our offices used to be the headquarters and practice facility of the San Francisco 49ers until they moved to Santa Clara in 1988?
In fact, the office of OSSMC Executive Director Tippy Irwin was once occupied by legendary 49er football coach Bill Walsh, the architect of the 49ers winning championship seasons in the 1980s.
From my office, I am able to peak out and watch kids’ soccer games on the field that was once played on by my sports heroes Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Dwight Clark.
I recently had the opportunity to go on a tour of Levi’s Stadium and walk through the beautiful new 49ers museum in Santa Clara. The tour was arranged by my son, Jeremy, who just happens to now work as an account executive for the 49ers (yes, I’m a proud dad). As I passed by the replica of Bill Walsh’s office (see pictures of Bill Walsh’s office then and Tippy’s office now), I exclaimed to family and friends who were accompanying me “that’s my boss’ office”. After explaining that no, I didn’t work for Bill Walsh, I was able to describe how Ombudsman Services was offered the office space.
I can’t help buy reflect on the 49ers proud history and my lifetime as a member of the 49er Faithful as I look out my window onto the field (see the picture of the 49ers practice field and the current picture out my office window onto the field as it is now.)
As I begin my tenure at OSSMC, I have no doubt that I have become part of a winning team!
